Stumbling Dance (1998-99), 14m45s
Starting, stopping, lurching forward, backwards tumbling. The motion of the endless dance, it remains static, always changes, never mind that it’s expanding, contracting, breathing, gasping… can I? should I? can we? could we? have… this… dance…?
Stumbling Dance takes its title from the idea of life, reflecting our interactions with self and others. These experiences are of course sometimes purposeful, other times purposeless, and event at moments accidental. One wonders whether the adage “one step forward and two steps back” has true validity. Stumbling Dance was composed in the electroacoustic studios at The University of Birmingham, England.
