Lorraine Vaillancourt (Jonquière, Québec, 1947)

Founder and artistic director of the Nouvel ensemble moderne (NEM) since 1989, pianist and conductor Lorraine Vaillancourt has performed regularly for the past thirty years, for several ensembles internationally. Her recent work with Les Percussions de Strasbourg was enthusiastically received by the critics. She has been responsible for many premieres both as a pianist and as a conductor. A founding member of Les Événements du Neuf (1978-1989), she has been conducting the Atelier de musique contemporaine at the Faculty of Music of Université de Montréal since 1974. Recently appointed member of the Board of directors at the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, Lorraine Vaillancourt contributed to the founding of Circuit, revue nord-américaine de musique du 20e siècle.
